CHEEP EATS

LAST TEMPTATION
12 Kensington Avenue
RED LOUNGE (AKA RED ROOM)
444 Spadina Avenue
JAVA HOUSE
537 Queen Street West
NIRVANA
434 College Street
The holy restaurant square (Kensington Market, Queen West, Chinatown and College/Bathurst) of outrageously cheap white-and-Asian-fusion food. With not a single item on their menus over $9.99, this is one pseudo-franchise you don't have to be ashamed about frequenting. Eclectic décor, ambient indie rock blasting at almost-too-loud decibels, horrible service, and a group of your friends waving you over frantically from that sweet booth in the corner.

GREENS VEGETARIAN RESTAURANT
638 Dundas Street West
Located on Dundas West just steps from Kensington Market. The menu is 100% vegetarian with plenty of mock meat. Large portions, super friendly staff and cheap.

MOTHER'S DUMPLINGS
421 Spadina Avenue
Affectionately known as "Mom's Dumps," this Chinatown stalwart is not to be missed. Steamed, pan-fried or take them home frozen and DIY, Mama makes sure to pack in a lil' bit of love in before she seals her dumplings off. Pork is popular ingredient in most dumps, but vegetarians have plenty of delicious options. Share with friends and you'll be rolling out of the joint stuffed to the gills, having spent a mere $5-10 each. Be frugal with the red chilies!

JODHPORE CLUB
33 Baldwin Street
If your craving some Indian food near school this is the place to go. Be sure to go with a couple of friends to share a few dishes at once. Cozy atmosphere and great rice will have you craving seconds.

BIG FAT BURRITO
285 Augusta Avenue
112 Dundas St. West
529 Bloor St. West

Serves four major burrito types: chicken, beef, vegetarian and yam. Prices for the 16-ounce burritos range from $3.75 to $5.50 according to size and the type of Mexican delight you order.

BAR NAZARETH
969 Bloor Street West

Ethiopian eatery with a kitschy charm. While the exterior looks run down, the inside is cozy and intriguing. Food is delicious and very reasonably priced. You can definitely order one dish and share between two.

KENSINGTON NATURAL BAKERY

460 Bloor Street West

One of the healthiest and cheapest spots to eat in downtown. They specialize in gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan foods and have a huge selection of baking, as well meal dishes.

PATTY KING
187 Baldwin St.

If you're walking down Baldwin (on the Kensington side) Patty King is a must. Try the double, a curry chick-pea filling between two delicious roti, or the beef patty on coco bread; both under $2.

THE GRILLED CHEESE
66 1/2 Nassau St.

Exactly what it sounds like, The Grilled cheese serves only grilled cheeses. There are several variations offered, all very tasty.

PLANET PIZZA
339 College Street

Is the food of choice for College street bar-hoppers on a budget. $4 for a vegetarian slice, which is delicious, will no doubt be the perfect end to your drunken evening.

LUCKY MOOSE - GROCERY STORE
393 Dundas St. W
A three minute walk from OCAD, at Beverley and Dundas. Lucky Moose will surprise you the first time you go. Cheap produce, $1 deals, and really cheap (but still good) meat are what make Lucky Moose the best way to save money on food around OCAD.

HAPPENING CAFES

LITTLE NICKY'S COFFEE
375 Queen Street West,
Entrance on Peter south of Queen

Tiny, cute, unique indie coffee place in an area dominated by coffee chains with made-on-demand mini donuts that are so good, hot, and fresh, you'll want to jam as many down your throat as possible. Good coffee. Good music.

E.L. RUDDY
1371 Dundas Street West
All the food at E.L. Ruddy is made from scratch, and many gluten-free or vegan choices are available. Originally intended to become a bookstore, the restaurant's walls are lined with floor to ceiling shelves, which are now populated with a variety of children's toys, antiques, plants and magazines.

SADIE'S DINER
504 Adelaide Street West
Sadie's captures the essence of the '50s diner to an almost idyllic Archie Comics degree and then puts a new-school twist on every part of it. Vegan & Vegetarian Diner.

STARVING ARTIST
584 Lansdowne Avenue

Waffle & Espresso Bar. They serve dessert waffles, brunch waffles, mini waffles, mini burgers on mini waffles and waffle shaped experiments (Free wifi) That's right, waffles and wifi

DARK HORSE ESPRESSO BAR
215 Spadina Ave Suite 102
684 Queen Street West
682 Queen Street East

The open space is outfitted with tall windows that let in lots of light, and a reclaimed-wood communal table with room for 12 encourages patrons to strike up a conversation over morning lattes.

MOON BEAN CAFÉ
30 Saint Andrew Street,
Kensington Market

Typical of what you'd expect at a Kensington Market cafe, there's a nice selection of vegan baked goods, along with fair trade in-house roasted coffee and a wide array of teas. Best for people watching, 2 patios front and back and seriously delicious coffee, tea and smoothies.

WATERING HOLES

SWEATY BETTY'S
13 Ossington Avenue

Do you enjoy a vodka and soda, cheez whiz on toast and the Sex Pistols? You're in luck. This "no-bull shit zone" is definitely not for the 905ers and definitely not for the pretentious cocktail crowd. Outdoor patio. Great place to go before or after a visit to XPACE.

SNEAKY DEES
431 College Street

Shaggy students, nubile waifs and tattooed twenty-somethings slug back pitchers of cold drafts and chow down on cheesy nachos or cheap, all-day breakfast. With the kitchen open until the wee hours, Sneaky Dee's is one of the prime places in Toronto to satisfy the late-night munchies.

RONNIE'S LOCAL 069
69 Nassau St.
Ronnie's is a great place in the heart of the market and a true neighborhood local. Their patio is great in the summer but fills up quickly and the real bonus is that you can get a grilled cheese sandwich delivered from across the street while you're sipping on a delicious beer. Don't expect service.

COMMUNIST DAUGHTER
1149 Dundas Street West

An irresistible little neighborhood joint. Inside, there's a funky, low-key atmosphere and a slightly retro vibe—vinyl chairs, Formica tables, an old lunch counter and a fantastic jukebox

CROWN AND TIGER
414 College St.
Probably the best place to run into OCAD students off campus, 'Crown' offers a $10 pitcher of domestic, or buckets of 5/6 bottles for $12. Crown also comes equipped with a great covered patio.
