The OCAD Student Union is holding its annual By-Elections for its Board of Directors from Monday, October 16 to Thursday, October 19, 2023.

The OCAD SU Board of Directors is made up of 11 voting members elected into their positions either during the main election held annually at the end of April, or if the position is still vacant, then during our by-elections, held annually in October.

The following positions are open: 

First Generation Representative 

Duration: November 1, 2023 - April 30, 2024
Hours of Work: approximately 8 hours a month
Compensation: $225 per month 

This student will act as a representative for all students who are the first in their family to seek post-secondary education. They will work with Executives and the Manager of Advocacy Services to advance the rights of, and provide support for, first generation students on campus. They will encourage collaboration with the University’s First Generation Student Department, Writing and Learning Centre and Indigenous Visual Culture Centre. This student will work with the Mature and Part-Time Student Rep to provide a welcoming environment and facilitate the creation of community at OCAD U.

Open To: Any interested Graduate or Undergraduate student, who is the first in their family to seek post secondary education, who is enrolled in a minimum of 0.5 credit. 

Indigenous Student Representative 

Duration: November 1, 2023 - April 30, 2024
Hours of Work: approximately 8 hours a month
Compensation: $225 per month 

This Indigenous-identified student will act as a representative for students on campus who identify as Indigenous. They have the ability to form an Indigenous Students Caucus and act as representative for that group. They will work with the Executive, Manager of Advocacy Services, and other constituency reps to create spaces that allow for Indigenous voices to be heard on campus and to advocate for greater decolonization of the University. This student may be expected to sit on the SU Grants Committee and assist in facilitating the SU Black, Indigenous, and Person Of Colour (BIPOC) Space.

Open To: Any interested Graduate or Undergraduate student, who identifies as Indigenous, who is enrolled in a minimum of 0.5 credit.

NOMINATIONS CLOSE Tuesday, October 3 at 11:59 pm

To be considered as a nominee, students must complete a Nomination Form by Monday, October 2 at 5 pm. The nominee must also provide a short biography and a recent headshot as part of the form.

Once your nomination form has been processed, the Deputy Returning Officer will add your name to the Endorsement Form and you can start collecting signatures. The endorsement form must be completed by Tuesday, October 3 at 11:59 pm.

Job Posting: Poll Clerks

Poll Clerks oversee the polling stations in the lobby of 100 McCaul St and other sites on campus during the voting period of the OCAD Student Union Elections. Poll Clerks are available to clearly explain voting procedures to students and ensure that voting procedures are carried out in a fair and consistent manner that adheres to the OCAD Student Union Elections Policy.
